Italy uses the euro. Whether you are in Rome, Tuscany or the Dolomites, you will mix high-trust card venues with places that prefer cash — especially smaller trattorias and parking meters.

Cash culture

A modest euro float avoids awkward moments when a venue is cash-only or the card terminal is down. High-denomination notes can be refused for small purchases; ask your UK supplier for €10s and €20s where possible.

Tourist city costs

Major cities add city tax per night, often payable in cash at check-in unless your hotel bills it to card. Budget that separately from your daily meal money.
